Apartment Dinette

Hello everyone! I am so excited to share with you my most recent eDesign project, a revamped dinette!

A dinette is a small dining setting usually made up of a table and two to four chairs. These are a great design option for spaces like small kitchens or apartments.

My recent project is just that! My client came to me after she recently moved into a new apartment and was starting a new chapter of her life. Her one interior design goal was she wanted her new rental space to feel like a home, and most importantly she wanted it to reflect her new beginning! A space that was new and her’s, a space full of as she put it “positive vibes only!”

(BEFORE PHOTO)

BEFORE

My client is a young professional, who works on a remote/hybrid schedule so most of her mornings start off here; catching up on emails while enjoying her morning coffee.

Right off the bat, I noticed that her current dinette situation did not reflect her “positive vibes only" mentality — I immediately thought to myself, I need to bring this space to life! My goal was to create a chic dinette space that was inviting. A space that is an inspiring start to her mornings.

DESIGN PROCESS

I started my design process by looking over her current pieces. I loved the warm wood tone of the pedestal dining table, I wanted to capture that warmth into my design. The second piece I loved was the subtle subtle saturated colors and texture her current area rug added. The distressed oriental pattern captures a modern twists on a traditional pattern!

My client did have one request, she wanted to incorporate a canvas painting that was a gift from her mother into the design. The dimensions were too small in scale compared to the dimensions of the dinette wall. I knew that hanging the canvas painting alone on the wall would look make the art work look disproportional/out of place. I needed to find a way to make the painting flow with the rest of the space, but also find a solution did not take away from the art piece.

THE RESULTS!

My client sent me these phots of her newly revamped dinette. Needless to say both of us were so thrilled with the results!

WINDOW TREATMENTS

When it came to window treatments, my client was restricted on what she could do –as most rentals are. Her apartment is perfectly situated to enjoy the morning and some afternoon sun. The only downfall was her apartment was also on the first floor, located in a courtyard that had a lot of “neighborly foot traffic.” –She found herself always keeping her blinds shut for privacy, making her space feel dark and dreary all the time. Adhesive window films (seen in the photo on the left) were the perfect solution!

DESIGN TIP

Adhesive window films can bring style, comfort, and most importantly added privacy to any space. They are easy to apply and remove, which makes them a great rental-friendly solution for added privacy or sunlight blocking when curtains or blinds are not an option.
